Greater Change

Our Mission

Greater Change is a non-profit organization on a mission to educate and empower communities in the Middle East. We firmly believe that, with access to the right resources and support, people can become the architects of positive change within their own communities, improving resiliency and promoting peace.

The idea to start Greater Change began in Northern Iraq, and current projects expand into Afghanistan and Syria Since 2017, Greater Change has started schools to improve education access, child-friendly spaces, family resiliency and economic development projects, and advocated for religious and persecuted minorities. Our success has demonstrated that education, empowerment, and community-driven change can create a better future for minority communities in fragile contexts.

From Refugee to Founder

It all started when…

Zenat Walker and her family moved to northern Iraq in 2015 to serve refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs). After two years of living in Iraq, Zenat noticed a gap in service to refugees and IDPs fleeing ISIS. While other organizations are distributing care packages and goods, people were not being given the tools to improve their own lives.

As her family prayed about how God had called them to Iraq, they felt Him directing Zenat to found an organization to serve vulnerable communities. The mission is to educate and empower vulnerable individuals to become change agents in their own communities.

Zenat is uniquely gifted for this role as she, too, experienced displacement. As a young child, Zenat and her family fled violence in the Middle East, becoming a refugee herself. She encountered the love of God and her life was transformed. Now, she is passionate about sharing that love with others.
